Summer

So it has been a while since I last posted anything on here. There has been too much going on! We did just move into an apartment in Dublin, CA which was approximately 20 miles south of our place in Walnut Creek. Lauren is going to be working at a private practice about 5 miles from where we live starting August 6 which means...residency is over! She has defintely made it through a tough time.

We had a relaxing vacation at the end of June down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where we were at a resort for 7 days. We had some fun adventures including swimming with dolphins for the first time (amazing) and a canpoy tour with Los Veranos where we were gliding through the Mexican jungle at heights of 500 feet!

After Mexico, we came back for a few days before heading down to Orange County, CA to spend some time with Lauren's family for the 4th of July. We had a lot of fun down there as well hanging out by the pool and just relaxing. We went up to Hollywood one night and saw a boradway play called
Wicked. It was my first ever musical and I was impressed! That was truly amazing.

We also went down to San Diego one day to visit Lauren's brother who is interning at a law firm there for the summer hoping to get a job offer before he starts his final year of law school at Columbia University.

Since we've been back in town, we have been going to SF Giants games, hanging out by the pool, and volunteer coaching a middle school bball team for our church. A few more weeks of vacation and then it's back to the grind.

Bubb Rub and Lil Sis

You've gotta check out the latest fad in Oakland, CA. I'm still deciding on whether or not to install them on my car...

Moving!

A lot of happened the last few weeks here in the Weger family. Lauren accepted a position has a pediatrician at a private practice in Pleasanton, CA! She has about 6 weeks left of residency and then the longs hours are over for good. Since she got a job south of us in Pleasanton, we are relocating to Dublin, CA to be closer to her job. My commute will remain about the same as the high school I work at is about half way between Walnut Creek and Dublin. We are sad to leave the place that we live in now, but are excited for the new opportunity. Being in Dublin we have us closer to some of our best friends which we are excited about.

I also got to travel last week to Oklahoma for my cousin Paul's wedding! It was a lot of fun to see friends and family there. Andrew and Aubrey, my brother and sister, made the trip with me. I hope to post some pics sometime soon.

On another exciting note, the Golden State Warriors upset the Dallas Mavericks last night and it was a ton of fun to watch and cheer them on! I have never been a huge Warriors fan, but since they are located just a few miles from us, I thought I should start routing for them.

Anyways, back to moving. We found a place to move into for 7 months and then we will see what happens from there. It's a decent complex with a washer and dryer! We haven't had one since we've been married...so we are excited for that. I sound that sounds weird, but hey no more quarters! We are starting to pack up our place for the June 1st move.

Spring Break!

One of the perks of working for the public schools is receiving a spring break! My spring break occured about a week ago and it was awesome. It started out by going to the Giants/Dodgers baesball game here in SF. The Giants lost but it was still a ton of fun.

Then on Easter we had my family over for the first time. It was the first time that we ever hosted a holiday. I prepared a ham for the first time and we have been having leftover ham ever since! Everyone said that it turned out good so I'm hoping they were telling me the truth. We also watched Happy Feet which was surprisingly hilarious.

Monday I went up to Fairfield, CA to have lunch with a friend from grad school at Sac State which was a lot of fun. Tuesday I went to the orthodontist to get my braces tightened and a new wire put in (not fun). After I got home I decided to go on a bike ride and ended up going for about 25 miles! It was a fantastic ride through the hills out here. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I spent finishing our taxes, watching baseball on TV, going to the gym, reading, etc. Oh yeah, Thursday I went golfing at Dublin Ranch Golf Course with a friend which was fun and frustrating at the same time. I am in the process of learning the sport of golf and it is one of the most challenging games I have ever played! But a lot of fun...and who doesn't enjoy driving the golf carts?

Saturday I got a call from another friend saying he had an extra ticket for an A's game. So I ended up seeing the A's/Yankess game in Oakland. What a game! It went into 13 innings and the Yankees won. I finally got my chance to "boo" the Yankees. Quite exhilarating.

So there you go! For those who wanted to be bored with my day-to-day happenings...there you have it. I still need to do a post on a trip to Las Vegas we took lat month for my father-in-law's 60th birthday party. I'll work on that. In the meantime, back to work!

Favorite Time of Year

I love March Madness! This is definitely my favorite time of the year due to the high number of basketball games going on at the same time. Currently I am in first place in the "pool" that I am playing in thanks to the Bracketology help from CNN/SI.

Besides that going on, my basketball team that I am coaching is still undefeated with 3 games left to play. Next weekend I'll have something exciting to post about...to all my 3 readers...stay tuned!

CSHA Conference

This past weekend I made my way down to Long Beach, CA for the annual convention of the California Speech and Hearing Association. I flew down on Thursday night and stayed with my in-laws who live in Orange County, CA - only a few miles from Long Beach. Anyways, the convention was really good and gave me some great ideas for the kids that I work with as well as ways to advocate for myself in the district that I am in. There is a huge need for Speech Therapists in CA right now. Currently, there are over 3,000 job openings in CA alone! Talk about job security...

I got to eat at some great restaurants including Islands and The Cheesecake Factory; two of my facorite places. If you ever go to the Cheesecake Factory, the orange chicken is killer!

Saturday night I went to Lauren's high school,Mater Dei, to watch the nationally 5th ranked high school boys basketball team play in a state playoff game. What a treat! Taylor King, the star of the team, is headed to Duke University on a scholarship and scored 43 points against the opposing team. As a basketball fanatic...it was amazing to watch!

Overall, it was a great trip but I am definitely glad to be home and be with my wife.

New Toy

So we finally upgraded to a new computer. We purchased a new Dell XPS 410. It is awesome and so much faster than our old computer. It came with a build in DVR to record live tv and then burn them to DVD's. Pretty cool stuff. Anyways, that's been exciting along with my basketball team that I coach winning its first game by 30 points!

Earthquake!

Check out the link below about the earthquake in the Bay Area tonight. We were centered right on top of the epicenter and it was the scariest one I have ever felt. Just glad that God kept us both safe!

4 years of bliss

So this past weekend Lauren and I ventured up to Cloverdale, CA to celebrate 4 years of marriage! It was such a great time of rest and relaxation We stayed at our favorite place up there The Old Crocker Inn. It was our third time staying there and it just keeps on getting better. The smell of fresh baked chocolate macadamian nut cookies upon arrival were something to die for! Couldn't have asked for a better weekend as the weather was absolutely beautiful, 75 degrees the entire weekend.

On Saturday we drove up to Clearlake, CA and went through the small towns of Lakeport and Kelseyville. When I say small, I mean small. Towns with just a few stop signs. We had a lot of fun driving through the hills and singing along to the 2007 Grammy CD. Saturday night we ate at our favorite Italian Restaurant, La Piecere.

Sunday we filled ourselves up with a 3 course breakfast from the Bed and Breakfast and then drove through the Alexander Valley and made our way through Calistoga and St. Helena before finally stopping in Napa for lunch at Gillwoods Cafe. Overall, it was a great weekend. Below are some pictures from our time up in wine country.

Braces

So today a pretty big event happened. I got braces! I'm glad that I'm typing cause my mouth feels pretty raw from the metal. Braces were something I was denying for a long time until last month when the orthodontist said I would lose all my teeth by the time I was 60 (how's that for some motivation?). Anyways, 2 years will be the treatment length and I already can't wait to get them off.

Coaching

Today was officially my first day coaching basketball. I've got a team of 8th grade boys that I am beginning to work with. It is a lot of fun and challenging at the same time! I am coaching at Charlotte Wood Middle School which is close to the high school I work at. It seems as though we are going to have a good team so far as this same team only lost 1 game last year. Coaching is going to be a great challenge, but rewarding at the same time. Stay tuned for an exciting post tomorrow...

It's been a while

So as the title suggests, it's been a while since the last post. I am frankly getting tired of going to our blog and seeing Lauren's uncle John as the head story! We had a great Christmas/New Years break. We were down in San Jose for Christmas Eve and Christmas day and then we flew down to Orange County for new year's eve/new year's day. Both events were a lot of fun. We spent some great time with both families.

On new year's day we got to go to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. It really was an amazing thing to see in person. It was hard to come back and get back to work!

Lauren and I also joined a new ministry that started within our church called the "Y" ministry. Check out the website at http://y.bacc.cc The ministry involves the middle school and teen groups. It has been a lot of fun so far (and a lot of work!).

Coming up next month we are going to be celebrating our 4 year anniversary! We are going up to our favorite spot up in Cloverdale, CA called the Old Crocker Inn so that should be a lot of fun. Our favorite room is the "Golden Spike Room." It's hard to believe that it has been four years already!

So hopefully over the next few weeks, I'll be posting more often. By the way, GO COLTS!!!

Lauren's uncle John

This is a video of Lauren's uncle John who is from Wisconsin. As you watch, keep in mind he was only paid (yes, he was paid for it) $100 for the advertisement. Enjoy!

Very busy lately!

Lately things have been going at about 100 miles an hour! I am currently trying to overcome bronchitis...which is definitely not a fun thing to go through. I am realizing how valuable sleep is since I have gotten very little of it the past four days. If only the coughing would go away...

We recently celebrated Lauren's birthday which was a lot of fun. We spent the weekend up in Sonoma, CA which is in wine country. We had some great food and got to do some shopping.

Shopping...the dreaded word this time of the year! Last night we braved the malls and I am thankful that I only brave the mall one time a year. The mall is crazy! Anyways, we are almost done with shopping which is good. We also recently put up our Christmas tree which is always fun.

That's about it for now. We are staying in the Bay Area for Christmasas Lauren has lots of work to get done in the ER. Here are some recent pictures.

We had a fun weekend

So this past weekend, Lauren and I had a lot going on! Thursday we headed down to Monterey, CA for a conference that Lauren had on pediatric obesity and the management thereof. While Lauren was at the conference, I got to hang out in the hotel and cruise around Monterey. Thursday night we ate at one of my favorite spots Bubba Gumps. Here are some pictures of the scenery down by the ocean in Pacific Grove near Pebble Beach.

The beach was absolutely amazing down there and it was so clear. We stayed at one of our favorite hotels as well, Embassy Suites. It was kind of random to run into those dear, but it was cool. I also got to go see the Monarch Butterfly place where there are thousands of them migrating.

Friday night we headed up to San Jose to a retreat that our church was having for the ministry that we are a part of, the Professionals Ministry. Basically, it is a ministry that combines single working professionals and young marrieds with no kids. We stayed at a fantastic spot called The Hayes Mansion. Here is a picture of the spot below.

It was a great time where we got to hear a lot of lessons on "Changing the World" by changing ourselves first. A lot of our friends were there as well which was fun.

On Saturday after the retreat, we went over to my parents house to celebrate Aubrey, Marilyn, and Lauren's birthdays! That was a lot of fun as well. All three of them have birthdays in November, so to make it easier, we celebrated them all on one day. Joshua brought his new girlfriend (which I think he was thoroughly embarrassed by)to the partyt and she got to see our family all together for the first time. Here are some pictures from our time at the birthday party.

Fall is setting in

So now that fall is setting in, I am able to sit back and reflect on what has happened the last few months. I started a new job as a speech therapist in a high school and I am absolutely loving it! It seems as though the freshman just get younger and younger and more immature as I get older. I have 54 kids on my caseload that I see every week (it definitely keeps me busy). Having that many kids on my caseload makes the weeks fly by. Lauren is a few precious months away from finishing residency and life is going by quickly. I remember dropping her off for her first day of medical school back in August of 2000. Six years later, she is almost done with all her training and her crazy hours. Can't wait!

My youngest brother Andrew, turned 19 years old...meaning that there is one teenager left in my family (that's seems weird). Lauren's birthday is next month and we are planning on a fun weekend in Santa Rosa, CA up in wine country. We also have a weekend trip scheduled for November to head down to Monterey, CA for a pediatric conference that Lauren is attending (I just get to enjoy the hotel and amenities). Before I know it...Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here and it will be time for the College Bowl Games.

Something else exciting happened...I got my first coaching job. I will be the head coach for 8th grade boys basketball at a middle school right down the street from the high school that I work at. It should be a lot of fun.

Besides all of that, I am sitting here watching the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series! Go Cardinals!!

Frank Caliendo on Letterman

Check out this video...the impressions are hilarious!
