Short Update

So obviously it has been a while since I have posted an update on our blog. I have been meaning to for quite a while...but just never had the motivation to do so! We recently bought our first home...very exciting, but scary at the same time. Can't wait until tax season next year; hopefully it will pay off! I just finished my second year of being a speech therapist at Monte Vista High School and will be moving on to another high school down the road...literally, two miles from our new house. Lauren's job is going great. She is in a great practice and sees many patients everyday.

We just got back from NY a couple of weeks ago. We were out there for Lauren's brother who recently graduated from Columbia Law School. Fun place to visit, but I would never want to live there. That's about it for now...I'll try to post more next week when I am on vacation!

Earthquake!!!!

So this past Tuesday there was a 5.6 earthquake out here in the Bay Area. Check out this articleto get more details. We were at our midweek service where we meet for church and while the minister was praying the whole building started shaking!! It was crazy and it reminded me of the book of Acts. We were glad that it wasn't a bigger earthquake like they are predicting. This is the second one that we've felt this year. You never know what's going to happen out here in CA!

Fall is beginning to set in

So now that vacation is officially over, it's time to start working again. School has been back in session for 2 weeks and I find myself more at ease this year than the beginning of last year, mainly due to not being a first year speech therapist any more! But it has been good to get back to work.

Lauren is settling in nicely to her position as an out-patient pediatrician and studying vigorously for her Board Exam in early October. She is enjoying the challenges that come with being a new doctor fresh out of residency.

We have also decided to take up a cardio kickboxing class at our local gym and man is it tough! We are both extremely sore today..but soreness is good right? I've decided I have a lot of muscles I haven't used in a long time. The class is for 60 minutes and it is non-stop.

Other than that, fantasy football is right around the corner as the NFL is starting up. We held a fantasy football draft party about 2 weeks ago which was a lot of fun.

Last weekend, we journeyed in downtown San Francisco to visit my family and spend time eating at the Cheesecake Factory and hiking around Ocean Beach. We had a lot of fun hanging out in teh city and definitely enjoyed the 30 degree temperature difference from where we live (it had been 100 degrees). Hopefully I'll get around to posting some pictures this weekend.

Vacation is almost over :(

With a few days left of summer vacation, I find myself wondering how in the world I am going to be able to gear up to work again?!?!?!?! Just kidding...I'm sure I'll find a way. Lauren started her new job last week at a private practice and splits her time between the two offices in Pleasanton, CA and Livermore, CA. She sees about 20 patients a day and enjoys it very much.

I will be going back to the same high school that I worked at last year, Monte Vista High School. I am looking forward to going back, but it has been nice to have the last few months off. I know that I should be lucky that I even get that much time off!

The last few weeks, we have managed to do a few fun things though. Lauren was the camp doctor and I was a counselor at our annual church camp which was a lot of fun...but very exhausting! The first camp was for the middle schoolers in the church and there were about 200 kids there! The second camp was for high schoolers and there were only about 120 of them (which is still a lot).

We also got a chance to go to a SF Giants baseball game to try and catch Barry Bonds record breaking home-run (it didn't happen...) We still had a lot of fun going into SF for the night and hanging out at the ballpark.

This weekend we have our annual Church conference that we have at the end of each summer. We are both looking forward to getting away for the weekend and seeing friends that we haven't seen in a while down in San Jose, CA
